Summer Study Weekend

Summer Study Weekend: 27th to 31st July 2006, The College and Cathedral of the Isles, Millport, Isle of Cumbrae

Ronald Stevenson, and colleagues in the Stevenson Society have played a significant part in the recent growing interest in the music of Erik Chisholm. The weekend, devoted to the music of Ronald Stevenson, Arnold Bax and Ronald Center, found time for a number of Chisholm items:
1) Two operas by Erik Chisholm
One afternoon was given over to video performances by the University of Cape Town Opera School. of two Chisholm operas, Dark Sonnet and The Pardoner’s Tale.

Listen to Music clip The Pardoner's Tale

Ronald Stevenson was heard to mutter that there ‘wasn’t a single aria’ but there was a lot of drama, passion and occasional revelry. David Hackbridge Johnson reviewing the weekend commented thus: ‘I wonder how long we will have to wait before a Chisholm opera is produced in Scotland?’

2) A Celtic Songbook Recital by Wills Morgan and Richard Black. A fascinating concert of songs and piano music by Ronald Center, Stevenson, Chisholm and F.G. Scott.
